60 Minute Science: Staining Alive

  • Western Science Center 2345 Searl Parkway Hemet United States (map)

Join us at the Western Science Center to explore the intersection of art and science. This small, hands-on natural dye workshop will cover the history and science of how a small insect, Dactylopius coccus, influenced textiles around the world. Learn how to grind insects, fold fabric into different patterns, and customize your garment into shades of pinks and purples.

The workshop is beginner friendly; all materials (cochineal, dye equipment, and 1 bandana) will be provided and included in the cost of your ticket. This workshop is recommended for ages 12+, as there will be boiling water and dye involved.
